SOS sets record for OCE printer

New South Wales printer SOS Print + Media Group in Alexandria has become only the third printer in the world and the only one in Australia to register 100 million impressions on its Océ VarioPrint 6250 duplex digital printer. Clocking in at more than 136,000 impressions per day, including weekends and public holidays, the record volume underscores the reputation of the Océ VarioPrint 6250 as a digital workhorse. Director of SOS, Michael Schulz says the company has been so impressed by the performance that it has installed a second Océ VarioPrint 6250.

“The printer’s ability to print instantaneous duplex has been a huge boon to productivity, in the printing of time-critical financial reports we produce each night for a variety of financial institutions as well as in our book on demand production.” Schulz says.

“For some finacials we receive the information from the customers between midnight and 3 AM and we need to print, finish and package the reports so they can be delivered to subscriber bases before 6am the following morning,” says Schulz.

“It’s the kind of operation where every second counts, so the time savings that the Océ VarioPrint 6250 has enabled us to make have proved crucial to our production process. Additionally the quality is comparable to offset and the front to back registration on the duplex output is the tightest we have seen for a digital printer.”

SOS Print + Media set a record with the Océ VarioPrint 6250 almost immediately on installation, printing three million copies in only the first 10 days.

“One of the reasons we have been able to do so well is that there are so few problems with the printer. It prints at a far lower temperature than other digital printers, virtually eliminating paper curling and jams caused by heat,” he says.

“It’s going strong and we’re on our way to our second 100 million copies.”
